HRD 2005 : Pearlcatchers - Playing at Work

Pearlcatchers Ltd - the innovative event and training consultancy - are bring some fun to this year's HRD Exhibition at Olympia, London from 12th - 14th April 2005. As well as their usual position at stand 1192 on the Gallery Level, Pearlcatchers can be seen at Demo Room 4 where they will show you the benefits of "Playing at Work"

Play is one of the most powerful ways in which people can learn. It's "safe", so people are more willing to try something new. It's fun, so it holds our attention and becomes more memorable and it encourages "learning by doing" - the best way to embed new skills. Pearlcatchers will use a series of interactive sessions to demonstrate how you can harness the power of play to address real business needs.

Dramatic Moments - Developing Management Skills

Dramatic Moments is a powerful development activity that uses drama to embed learning. Using two actors to represent both manager and employee, delegates get to watch a situation evolving and are then asked to provide guidance and coaching to the manager. We then give them the rare benefit of hindsight, as we rewind the action and try again based on their input.

Dramatic Moments provides a novel variation on "role playing", where delegates can learn as observers or have the opportunity to step into the role and try it out for themselves. Using two different scenarios - one based around managing performance issues, the other around handling resistance to change - you can see how this technique works with some of the major issues that face today's managers.

Voice and Body Workshop

Using theatrical techniques to develop the skills of projection and physical presence, this taster demonstrates how even the quietest, least confident member of a team can metamorphose into a powerful and engaging personality, whether influencing colleagues or giving presentations.

Art Works - Creative Teambuilding Techniques

This session will introduce you to the power of arts-based games as tools for building creativity and team spirit. Expect to take part in various activities, such as making a totem pole or creating your very own work of art.

Change Matters

This fun activity uses a social situation to help participants gain an awareness of how people feel and behave at the various stages of the change transition curve. A great ice-breaker for more detailed discussion / learning on managing people through change. Back to the Future - Creating a Vision

In order to achieve a goal, you need to know where you are aiming, but creating a future vision is often a challenging task. Using guided visualisation and the novel tool of a "postcard from the future", this exercise helps participants to visualise how they want the future to be - the first step to getting there!
