City Wine Trail Challenge

A deliciously fast paced treasure hunt through the heart of London, combining cryptic conundrums, filming and/or photo-taking, team tasks and tasting, whilst enjoying the rich history of the City and encountering many of its great landmarks.

The setting is the bustling Port of London (around the City and South Bank), where under cover of a cab, by foot, ferry or cycle rickshaw, groups explore the historical landing point of fine clarets, ports and other wines immortalised by the likes of Shakespeare, Dickens, Pepys and other luminaries who gained inspiration in the wine lodges on the banks of the Thames.

Whilst filming a documentary in a manner set by the judges and deciphering devilishly cunning cryptic clues at points on the trail, teams encounter an enchanted London of smugglers' tunnels, Dickensian wine lodges, the cavernous halls of the Tate Modern, Shakespeare's globe and search for wine in St Pauls Crypt, as well as chancing upon other fascinating locations.

On one level the hunt will stimulate even the most competitive of groups and on another level it opens a door to what the city was like in the time when the river held the key to all commerce, especially that most precious of commodities ... wine!

A flagon of Champagne awaits at a secret destination, where a screening of the documentaries or a display of the photos takes place - to great merriment and much rejoicing!

This concept can also be organised in a wide range of locations other than London - see Wine Trail Challenge for more details.
