About us – Pearlcatchers Ltd was set up in 2002 to offer a fresh approach to learning, development, teambuilding and events. Our lead consultant Sharon Young had worked for many years in both operational and change roles at companies such as Yellow Pages and Cable and Wireless. About Sharon – her experience as both an agent and target of change gave her a unique perspective as a trainer and consultant.
Having been involved in amateur drama for 15 years, Sharon recognised its potential as a learning and development technique. She put together a team of professional actors, writers and trainers who complemented her commercial knowledge and formed Pearlcatchers.
Sharon decided to develop the company around the concept of an arts-based approach to learning and Pearlcatchers grew both in terms of popularity and the range of topics covered. Our drama-based learning initially focussed on using theatrical techniques to support the development of soft skills, such as communication and public speaking.
However, with her background in both the theatre and business worlds, Pearlcatchers began to combine business experience with innovation and eventually created training solutions in all areas of development from change management to customer service, leadership development to forecasting and planning.
We offer a truly blended learning solution when designing a transformational course or programme. We use varied formats to enhance the learning experience.
We believe that learning begins before any face-to-face intervention – with joining instructions, pre-course work and the elicitation of the learner’s own objectives. If these are met then the learner will not only feel satisfied, but will be motivated to implement the learning and continue to learn.
We have found the use of professional actors extremely helpful in ‘bringing situations to life’, particularly when either trying to change attitudes or explore how to deal with challenging situations. “Actors brilliant, added the wow factor to the whole course.” – Tesco
Action Learning Sets
We use action learning sets to foster learning in the workplace and create a culture of continuous learning. The emphasis is on learning from experience and then acting on that learning. They are a simple and powerful way for individuals to learn from each other. Using the knowledge and skills of a small group of people, they reflect back on actions taken, drawing out learning from that reflection, and applying that learning to planned practice.
